We are quite a social club, and spend a lot of time eating and drinking in Chiswick after training. Here are the places we love and the local businesses we frequent.

Coffee

We love our coffee here at Wave and post Jiu Jitsu on a Sunday after our open mats we usually end up going for a coffee. Below are our favourite coffee spots in Chiswick

Artisan

This one is a no brainer, it’s a two minute walk from the gym. Everyone knows us there and they make a great cup of Joe.

Tamp

Tamp is another favourite, it’s further away from the gym, but worth the trek, the coffee is amazing and it’s a place for those little Portuguese Pastel de nata custard tarts. This place is deadly!

Pubs

On Saturdays after training, we inevitably and invariably end up going to the pub for drinks. We like our fancy craft beers, but if the place is right we don’t care. Wave likes to work hard and play hard. These are our favourite pubs in Chiswick

The Raven

This is a no BS pub, the food is direct and does the job, we go for the sharing platter that comes in it’s golden deliciousness all in various shades of yellow and beige. We don’t go here for the food though, the staff are friendly and know us well. The beer has become more craft the more we go and they can pour that authentic Guinness as well as anywhere in Dublin (queue all my Irish students protesting that this is not true). The Raven is a Wave institution.

The Carpenters Arms

This one is more of a Gastropub with an emphasis on the Gastro, We go here on our little pub crawls when you don’t have to book and it has a great garden. It has a quintessential British country pub feel and the food is great. You would go here for a nice Ale and a book by the fire in Winter or a Pimms and friends in the garden in summer.

91 Black Lion Ln, London W6 9BG

The Duke of Sussex

This pub is a bit of a trek from Wave, but when we are continuing our Chiswick crawl, we end up here. It has a massive garden and is great in Summer. The staff are super lovely and friendly and it has some of the best pub chips of anywhere! The aioli is worth it all by itself. We have done gradings and other celebrations here in the summers past as it is quite a huge pub for Chiswick and the garden is sprawling.

Connolly’s Irish Pub

We go here for Guinness, people playing fiddles and the pool table. It has a great atmosphere that only an Irish pub can provide and it’s great later in the evening.

Restaurants & Cafes

Well you have to eat right? BJJ builds a strong apetite. Chiswick is actually not a bad area to go out for food. We have the popular chain places like Franco Manca and another one we love which we mention below. We have some all day dining places, and great brunch spots. Some are pricy most are not too bad. Getting hungry just thinking of this list, lets get going.

Urban Pantry

Kate from Urban Pantry training at Wave :)

We would argue this is up there as one of if not the best brunch spot in London, the owner Kate brings creative specials and a twist on the originals that are next level. If you are having a lazy Sunday or any other day and want a great brunch. Look no further than Urby P

High Road Brasserie

Ok, this is part of Soho House and sounds pricy…. It is, but if you want a special meal this is not a bad choice. It is an all day restaurant with food from brunch to dinner, with snacks and coffee and drinks options too. The staff is great and very friendly. The atmosphere is perfect, it can be casual or more formal depending on your mood. They also have sharing food options that are so good!

Am hoping someone from Soho House reads this, and sends me an invite to be a full member, this is a popular blog right? :)

Burgers & Beyond

IMG_1005.jpeg

Burgers and Wave go together like gi and nogi. We love our burgers! That’s why this is the first of two burger recommendations on this list. We sometimes chill at our little arch, and invariably Lorenzo orders food, he can’t stop eating. This burger place is deliciously messy and has the best sides. The fried chicken is next level and all the potato options are to die for. It’s only on Deliveroo in chiswick but worth ordering for sure

Honest Burger

Honest burgers are one of the best chains out there and have great ingredients and options, the staff are great and we love the rosemary chips.

Other places to train to complement your Wave training

Forge Warehouse

IMG_1832.jpeg

This place will kill you, then make you jacked so you can rip peoples limbs off at Wave, It’s a lot like that place starting with the C but without the cult like quality, although I am pretty devoted for sure, they split your body into top and bottom and have classes for both. Just be ready to suffer the pain and don’t overdo it, you still have Jiu Jitsu class to get to.

Wave members get 15% off of here, DM us for details.

W6 Gym

Our neighbours have a great community based gym, they are right next door to Wave so convenient for our members and have all the equipment you need to get in shape for BJJ. Get hench and get a great number on your bench (did that work? No? Ahhh it sounded good in my head).

F45 Ravenscourt Park

Want something a bit lighter and a class? I highly recommend our friends at F45 in Ravenscourt Park. It’s a group class again combining weights and cardio and has a great vibe and a wonderful team to help you through.

Other Places we like

Zen Maitri

Need an apothecary to cure all your ailments? Chiswick has one! This place has all the teas and concoctions to get you back into shape, they also run classes in meditation. It’ s a great little treasure trove to help heal the soul.

Chiswick Cinema

Chiswick finally has a cinema! We love film here at Wave so this is a great option with a beautiful wall garden and a great mix of arthouse and blockbuster films. Who doesn’t love a great independent cinema? :)
